University of Guam Triton Esports Concludes Collegiate 2024 Season with Strong Playoff Appearances in NACE
The University of Guam’s Triton Esports program reached significant milestones during its Spring 2024 season in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE). With a record-breaking enrollment of 70 athletes, Triton Esports demonstrated its ability to maintain quality amidst a doubling of participant quantity.
After a winless season in Fall 2023, Triton Esports fielded two Overwatch 2 teams for the Spring 2024 season. Both teams concluded with impressive records of 6 wins and 1 loss in their respective brackets. OW2 Team Comp Team, competing in the Western Conference Masters and Below Division, secured second place nationally, narrowly losing the division title to Redlands University.
In addition to Overwatch 2, Triton Esports focused on rebuilding its Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster, pairing veterans Patrick Lagman and Aaron Vice with a roster of 6 new players. Despite the team’s 2-5 record for the season, valuable experience was gained and the future looks bright for the team in August.
Moreover, Triton Esports made its debut in Rocket League this season. Despite facing more experienced competition, Triton Esports managed a 4-2 record in seasonal play before bowing out in the division semifinals to the Idaho University Vandals.
