Triton Esports Adds GTA to Growing List of Sponsors

The UOG Triton Esports team has partnered with local telecommunications giant GTA. A long-time proponent of innovation and community, GTA's $5,000 donation will go directly to student stipends for 10 Triton Esports athletes -- allowing them to devote more time studying and competing against the top college esports programs in the nation.

In its brief existence, Triton Esports has taken home a top 16 finish in NACE team competition for the game Super Smash Bros UItimate and have had two athletes clinch 3rd and 4th place at the NACE Community Cup. Triton Esports Manager Ken San Nicolas believes that the next phase of the program should focus on growth and inclusion.

"As the program continues to grow and attract more athletes, partnerships with community-oriented businesses like GTA are vital to supporting that growth. In August, we hope to add 5 to 10 more scholar athletes to the program and add one to two more games to the list of titles that UOG competes in. At the same time, we hope to improve on our placement from last semester and emulate the same successes we have had in the past. We thank GTA for their belief in our program and their on-site event support as we strive for the best connectivity possible."

San Nicolas adds that tryouts for their 2022 Fanuchanan roster will begin August 17th.

GTA now joins Glidepath, the Guam Army National Guard, Geek Out and Latte Esports as sponsors of the Triton Esports program. Organizations interested in learning more about the program may send inquiries to esports@triton.uog.edu

Traditionally, this is prohibited in the pro esports scene. However, all physical sports allow coaching from the sidelines.
